What do you want to know
more about? More Mesopotamian religion facts? Then keep on
reading!
The Mesopotamian religion was polytheistic, in other words, they believed in many gods and goddesses. These religious beliefs were the answers for the natural features that they couldn’t control and couldn’t explain. The gods and goddesses had power over everyone and everything! If the gods were happy, good things would happen. If the gods were fighting, there would be war. If the gods were mad, bad things would happen. People worshiped the gods and made everything to make them happy. Everyone had to sing hymns, said prayers, made sacrifices and brought offerings. The Mesopotamians had temples were the statues of the gods and goddesses would be washed, dressed and fed. Everyone had their own protective god and goddess. Some of the gods are Enki, the god of wisdom, Enlil, the god of air, and Nanna, the god of the moon. Some of the goddesses were Ereskigal, the queen of the underworld, Innana and Ishtar, the goddesses of love and war. At Graded School, three fourths of the students are Christian, and the rest are Jewish, Buddhist or have no religion. Most of the students celebrate important religious days.
Different from the Mesopotamians, the students have a positive over view of their lives, but, there may be hard times. There are no outside forces that can effect what they can do. For the Mesopotamians, the gods were in control. The people felt like they were not wanted—a mistake of the gods. What made the people think they were not wanted, was the fact that their lives were very difficult.
